Say it with a Kiss – Hershey Kiss birthday cake

Hershey shaped cake with levels of Hershey kisses, with a bit Hershey kiss on top. What more could a girl ask for? Yay chocolate.

This one was for L’s birthday in ‘09 and you can see in the picture below there was lots of lovey dovey accents with heart plates, red/pink decorations, and even red kool-aid to match.

As per our usual tradition of not being allowed to see the cake until the moment the party is ready to light the candles and blow them out, here’s L waiting anxiously:

Does that not look anxious enough? How about this one then?

Yeah, excitement does funny things to one’s face, hehe.

Cupcakes out of this world… Sorta

But not really. No recipe for delicious cupcakes here. :P

For whatever reason, the above cupcake made me think of a globe. When I went looking for pictures of the Earth that would display that, I came up much shorter than expected. Maybe if the Earth’s water were green instead, I would’ve had way more luck.

^ That looks nothing like the swirly cupcakes, huh? They’re really more like tie dye swirls.

I probably just spent more time looking for pictures about that single cupcake than that cupcake existed, though. It was actually the result of the leftover batter of these:

And those were all crumbled and chocolate-coated into cakeballs….or rather, crackballs, because boy oh boy did they make the kids crazy!

Facts About Food Friday – Heart cake without a special pan

Photobucket
Yay, Of Home and Muse had a picture example. Easy enough, right?

FAF #4

Who needs a heart-shaped cake pan if you have a square one and a circle one? Bake a cake in each, cut the circle one in half, turn the square so it’s facing like a diamond, and then add each circle half to the top sides. Yay, a heart!

I don’t bake cakes often, but I wish I would’ve thought of this one a long time ago. I’ve been lugging around a large awkward shaped heart cake pan for many years now, just because I thought maybe I’d need it at some point. It’s had a few uses over the years, like the time my mom made a Mickey Mouse cake using a heart as the base. But you have no idea how much of a pain in the butt it is to stack in a cabinet. It would never lay flat. Boo. :(
