How to get large, New York slices, from a small oven

pizza, tips | June 27, 2011 | By

Well now here’s a quirky solution to a problem I didn’t even know existed! It makes total sense now that I see it….it *would* be hard to get large slices out of a small pizza from a tiny oven.

Lo and behold, cut it another way and you still get traditional triangle slices, but not baby 5-6” ones!

Nifty, no?

Stuck in the garbage disposal? Tongs to the rescue!

Cup stuck in a garbage disposal, using tongs to remove retrieve it

We’ve had the garbage disposal for 8 months now without any major problems. Then twice in one week, this happened. Somehow, of all the dishes that were placed in the sink first, this one little plastic cup managed to slide right into the garbage disposal hole.

And this perfectly sized cup was also just tall enough that it couldn’t be pushed farther into the disposal so I could reach in, get a grip, and pull it out. It was also just short enough there was no lip I could grab onto it from this angle either. It was wedged as tight as can be without wanting to go up or down.

So tongs it was! It was still difficult to get the tongs wedged in and secure a grip, but once I did, it came right out. Well, and then right back in a few days later, but that’s beside the point…

Facts About Food Friday – Did the power go out while you were away?

FAF #6

Ever gone out of town and came back to your microwave flashing 12:00? Yep, the power went, but for how long? Did the contents of your freezer thaw out and refreeze, damaging the food inside? Give yourself peace of mind by putting a baggie of ice into the freezer before you leave. If it still looks like ice cubes when you get back, then it’s all good. If the ice has melted and refrozen into a piece of solid ice, you better reconsider the food inside.

I always forget to do this. I have come home to find a snowstorm had hit our home, though, and had to consult neighbors to find out how long the power was out, bleh.
