Dear Subway… (Wordless Wednesday)

Dear Subway Inc, your cheese slices are shaped like this (isosceles triangle cheese). This is great because it allows you to tessellate the cheese across the sandwich like this (alternating to cover the whole sandwich). However, you guys never do this. instead, you always arrange your cheese like this (all facing the same way and overlapping). Please stop doing it like that.
Seriously, cut it out.

How to prep and store 6 pounds of jalapenos

6 lbs pounds 1 oz 2.750 kg of whole pickled jalapeno Mexican peppers

We’ve discussed how I go through food phases, right?

Well at some point, my “Let’s cook lots of spicy foods” and my “Buying in bulk is awesome!” phases overlapped.

And somehow, that meant I absolutely needed 6 pounds of jalapeños.

So what do you do with that many peppers? You deseed, slice, chop, puree, and gut dozens of them for whatever purpose that might show up in the next few months.

Jalepano jalapeno peppers for poppers, spanish dishes, sliced diced chopped store them in the fridge in airtight containers

The whole ones, I ended up stuffing for some delicious pepper poppers. The sliced and diced ones got put in the fridge to be used for various casseroles, Mexican dishes, and just adding to whatever the girls wanted to spice up. Because each one liked a different level of heat, it wasn’t uncommon for one to want lots of peppers that night on something completely random and the others not want to touch ‘em at all.

I have no idea how long that can of peppers stretched….many, many months, no doubt. It was such a cheap way to add flavor to just about anything.

Please wear gloves if you’re going to handle this many jalapenos at once, though. Ouch.

No, I’m not being sarcastic either. Really.

Hot dogs are one of those strange foods that kinda creep me out when it comes to letting kids eat them. Unfortunately, I’m not even talking about nutrition. How many hot dogs you feed your kids is your own business and I‘m not going to judge at all much. ;)

No, actually it’s the slippery, slimy texture and kids’ tendencies to take bites too big that cause my hear to skip a beat or two when I see parents hand over whole dogs to their one year olds. And if I’m watching your kid, you better believe it will always be cut right down the middle length-wise and then sliced across into several rows.

Which means I need one of these. This is exactly how I cut them and there aren’t any blades either, so even the kids can take care of chopping their hot dogs in one smooth, adorable move.

Come on, it even has a food/water bowl to add in ketchup or other random condiments. Yes, yes, I know it’s a silly, unnecessary unitasker….but for only 6 bucks? You’ll save more than plenty of time by not having to slice every one over the years by yourself, and you won’t have to pull me out of your throat when I jump down it for you not cutting them. :P
