Pi Day is coming- The best apple ‘pi’ with number filling

Pi Day apple pie with numbers on the crust and apple number slices inside for filling

I have been around the interwebs for my fair share of “pi days”* and have seen a lot of awesome pies created for the day. I’ve even made my own pies on that day, because that’s what you’re supposed to do, right?

But this one takes the cake (er, pie?) for the best pi-related one. It goes above and beyond just putting the pi numbers on top and instead, fills the center with pie shaped apple slices, too. How fun would that be to slice into after already being impressed that there are numbers on top and expecting a regular pie inside?

From what I hear, A Periodic Table blogger Shannon is pretty darn good cook, too, and she’s got a lot of tips for how to make your own pie taste amazing, so I’m pretty sure this not only looks awesome, but would taste awesome, too. Usually when I see creations like this, I want to make my own and it inspires me to do something similar or related somehow, so it’s not an exact copy. I have no idea how I could possibly improve this one, though, so I’m just going to leave it to her. <3

*March 14 is considered “Pi Day” because the first 3 numbers of ‘pi’ are 3.14….which looks like the date “3-14” or “March 14.” Just wait for the celebration in a few years when it’s 3.1415….

Have another Nutter Butter peanut butter sandwich penguin!

Nutter Butter peanut butter sandwich cookies. They look like penguins with a marshmallow belly, Tootsie roll arms, carnival peanut nose and feat. Nutter butters change shape to round cookie instead now.

Can you tell what each of the toppings used is? I couldn’t figure out what the white was to begin with, but after seeing the tutorial over at Hungry Happenings, I felt silly for not recognizing it.

I couldn’t even make this right now if I wanted to unfortunately. Did you know that they changed the shape to just being round cookies? Yeah, it’s pretty lame. :(

And I’m pretty sure if I used round cookies for these, they would turn out to be the most deformed little penguins ever.

Actually, this penguin plush toy might take the cake on that one:

Round penguin ball. Deformed fat penguin.

But they’d be rough regardless, so I’ll just drool over the penguins above instead. It’s not like I really like Nutter Butters anyway…. I only want to play with them. :P

Perfectly round Christmas cookies with a paper towel roll

cookies, holidays, tips | December 20, 2012 | By

If you’re anything like me, you don’t really care what shape your cookies come out in….so long as they’re still edible.

Sometimes, they don’t even have to meet that requirement.

Fortunately, though, most people aren’t like me and some of you even sway toward the perfectionist side of the boat. If that’s you, you’ll love this tip.

After making your cookie dough, roll it out into a log shape, wrap in cling wrap, and then place inside a paper towel roll (slit it open like shown in the video). Roll it around a bit and then freeze it. When it’s ready, you can remove the perfectly shaped cookie log and slice into perfectly shaped cookies.

If the dough is still a bit soft, rotate the cookie dough log a quarter turn between each slice as well. This will avoid the bottom of the roll flattening some and creating those horribly deformed cookies that you don’t want.

Or, don’t follow that advice and just send all of your rejected cookies to me instead. I will eliminate them in a very, er, humane way. All cookies will be harmed, but it’ll be what they truly wanted anyway, right? ;)
