Incredible turtle and elephant cake

African cake with life sized turtle, elephants, and a 3D map - Discworld

Yep, that’s a cake. Go ahead, look again.

The best part is, the introduction says “Just your basic iced and marzipanned fruit cake to begin – made in a wide oval bowl.  The head and front flippers are shaped from fruit cake and covered with marzipan. Basic food colours applied.”

Oh yes, oh so basic. Don’t they sound rather nonchalant about it? ha The rest is written just as straight forward with fabulous pictures next to words like “Wire frames and dowels to support the elephants, to be moulded in marzipan.”

The rest of the pictures are quite amazing, too, with close-ups of the elephants and some step-by-step shots. Awesome. I definitely thought it was a sculpture when I first saw it and not something completely edible.

Room made out of chocolate

What is it with people wanting to create rooms out of food?

I guess if there’s any food to make furniture out of, it might as well be chocolate, right? As  the artist herself said:

Elena Climent declared she had a lot of fun working on the chocolate room, and while she compared the process to ice sculpting, she said chocolate is a warm, good smelling material which creates a unique atmosphere.

I just don’t know how she didn’t manage to eat it all. :P

There are several pictures at Oddity Central. Scroll down far enough and you’ll run into some links to other chocolate rooms and sculptures, too.  Oh, and in case you’re wondering, the chocolate room above is 40% dark chocolate, 40% milk, and 20% white.

“In Your Arms” by Kina Grannis
Video directed by Greg Jardin and produced by a team of 30

Even if it’s not your favorite style of music, the video will likely capture and hold your attention. It took almost 2 years to make, 1357 solid hours, 2,460 frames, and 288,000 jelly candies.

If you enjoyed it at all or are curious how parts of it were made, I highly recommend watching this “behind-the-scenes how-it-came-to-be” kind of video, too. It gave mea  whole new level of appreciation and awe.
