The week I burned my belly button….twice

beans, culinary detours | August 23, 2009 | By

Yep, that’s right, for the first time ever, I burned my belly button while cooking….and apparently doing it once wasn’t good enough!

The background: I’ve been cooking in this kitchen for a while now, I know where everything is, etc. Oh, and I’m short.

The build-up: On occasion one, I had a crockpot of beans going on the counter while I was cooking other things. On occasion, too, I had a pan of boiling water on the stove.

The “incident(s)”: For whatever reason, I tippy-toed to reach something on both instances. With the crockpot, I was using a glass lid on it because the original lid broke long ago. It was sticking out just enough that it lined up perfect with my belly button when I stretched to my max to grab something from the top shelf. A few days later when I reaching to the side and back of the stove to grab a far spoon, I did the same exact thing with the lid of a different pan. My reflexes weren’t as good that time either, as I actually ended up with a horizontal blister across the bottom portion of my belly button. :(

Moral of the story: Use a step stool and don’t lean over hot dishes. :(

Tip of the Day – Put your pizza on a pizza pan…or else

Fortunately, this is ‘not’ my picture.* I’ve put my fair share of pizzas right on the rack and the worst I’ve ended up with was a bit of cheese on the bottom of the oven.

Well, that and the constant reminder of pizza smell every time I use the oven for the next 6 months. Wait…how often am I supposed to clean the stove again…? Hmm.

Powdered peanut butter? Hmm.

Kirby Von Scrumptious has done a great review for PB2. If you’d expect powdered peanut butter to be full of chemicals or taste awful, think again. Not only does it only contain peanuts, salt, and sugar, but Kirby compares it to the cream in Nutter Butter (a bit less oily than regular peanut butter), and gives an example of how she liked to eat it.
